Usually vanilla is 50$ cheaper than Deluxe version and I think Asus really nailed it with P6T motherboard, you'll get all the features needed by most gamers, and you won't be missing any extra features Deluxe have. For OC, 8+2 Phase didn't disappoint at all, I managed to get my i7 920 to 190*20 3.8 GHz running 2 hours prime95+3dmark06 without any problem but CPU heat was on edge 86C-88C. At 200*20 4 GHz it booted to windows but wasn't stable under load. For me I'm happy to set @ 160*20 3.2 GHz with Intel boost enabled @ auto voltage by BIOS.

While most of the Canon’s PIXMA inkjet printers are meant for desktop computers, fortunately those printers never proved to be back-breaking monsters with large sizes or weights. There’s a market that printer manufactures seem to be keen on exploring now though and that is the mobile segment. Whether for travelling (printing pictures as you take them) or people constantly on the go for meetings, seeing clients, and a variety of reasons, the concept of a portable printer has suddenly become a very appealing one. From Canon’s PIXMA series comes the iP100, a printer that offers both portability as well as quality prints.

There are a few factors that make a printer ‘portable’ such as the footprint of the product meaning the size and the weight. The PIXMA iP100 scores high on this by being relatively light and compact, making it easy to carry around with a bag. Another important factor would be whether it can be wireless or not. While being light and compact is one thing, if it is possible to eliminate the use of wires all together, will be much better. Though optional, it is possible to get a Bluetooth adapter for the PIXMA iP100 (which is quite pricey as far as we know), which will allow you to send print commands to your printer wirelessly through not only a computer, but also PDAs or mobile devices. Not only that, any compatible digital camera, mobile phone with camera, or DV camcorder can use the PIXMA iP100’s PictBridge technology to directly via USB to print photos without the need of a computer. Along with the rechargeable lithium ion battery included, it is possible to use the iP100 without any wires.

With a maximum of 9600 DPI, quality will not be found wanting from the PIXMA iP100. For printer cartridges, two are needed for the iP100: 1 black as well as another based on Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and a Photo Black color for better shades in photo prints. Text prints are decently fast at roughly 9.6 ppm though colored prints, especially prints with a lot of objects on it, are on the slower side at 5.1 ppm. However, considering its portability, being able to print at the best quality at that speed is decent; of course, draft prints would be a lot faster.

The Canon PIXMA iP100 comes at a premium price and if you add the optional Bluetooth adapter, it becomes even more expensive. Sources have also claim that cartridges for the iP100 don’t last long but are not cheap either. Whatever the case, products with great portability often command a premium price and in this case, it’ll likely be useful for many people.

Though not Full HD, the VP2250wb is a great display panel in its own right. This display panel is a good solution for graphic designers, a bit on the pricey side though.

This wouldn’t be the first time we review Viewsonic display panels, and it certainly won’t be the last. This month, we got our hands on a review unit of Viewsonic’s VP2250wb. Though not Full HD, the VP2250wb is a great display panel in its own right. This display panel is a good solution for graphic designers, a bit on the pricey side though.

The Viewsonic VP2250wb has a native resolution of 1680×1050, which unfortunately is not full HD. The biggest advantage of this display panel is it’s OptiColour technology, which allows it to deliver up to 106% of the NTSC colour spectrum, instead of the 72% in most LCD display panels. This delivers brighter and more vibrant colours, better colour saturation, and more precise colours. This is ideal for professionals like graphic artists or photographers as there is a wider colour pallet to work with, thus improving colour accuracy for their works. The display has a dynamic contrast of 3000:1 and a static contrast mode of 1000:1. In addition, the VP2250wb has a great response time of only 2ms.

The stand is a good one, allowing you to pivot the panel 90° to view the screen in portrait mode, great for viewing websites and documents. It’s also possible to pan it left-right or tilt it up-down, though the vertical viewing angle especially from the bottom (would be a problem when trying to view in portrait mode) leaves much to be desired. Another good thing about this display panel is the 4 USB ports situated behind along with the VGA and DVI ports. The ports are a bit hard to reach seeing that they’re situated at the back of the panel. A side placement would have been more desirable, but it really isn’t that big an issue, other than being irritating to have to reach for it every time you need to plug something in or out.

This LCD display would also make for a good gamer’s monitor as motion handling is smooth and the 2ms response time provides seamless 3D gaming experience. Of course, being widescreen this also means that the VP2250wb is ideal for watching DVD or HD movies. Viewsonic also included a software called the PerfectSuite plus, which helps you to adjust settings like the colour temperature, brightness, contrast, and fine tuning and sharpness setting. All these are done easily via mouse or keyboard. Also, you get a calibration wizard that helps you setup the display based on the resolution, brightness, and colour temperature controls. Additionally, you can opt to enable the auto-pivot function within the software, which allows you to change the image orientation easily. To top it off, there’s a theft deterring option and when used, makes sure that the correct PIN number must be given when connecting to other systems.

To conclude, Viewsonic’s VP2250wb is certainly a solid performer, though it may be pricey. But considering that there’s a 3-year warranty covering parts, labour, and backlighting; it really isn’t too bad of a bargain after all. So if you are a professional who needs the kind of features offered by this LCD display, this is something you should seriously consider.

Seagate One Touch IV Mini External Hard Disk Drive Review

This is not a new product, being more than a year on the market, and Maxtor has since been swallowed up by its one-time rival Seagate.

So why is this product in today’s line-up? For no other reason than because we wanted to see how it faired against the newer breed of portable hard disks.

You should note that Seagate has pushed out an upgraded version of this product, called the One Touch IV Mini, which could not be delivered in time for this comparison.

Housed in silver plastic, it feels sturdier than it looks and is quite a solidly built device that will obviously soak up the odd bump or two, especially with its black-rubber sidepieces.On the front is a button with a white LED (light-emitting diode) that doubles as a status indicator and signals that you have activated the backup command. To backup your data, just press the button once.

There’s also a Y-shaped USB cable for data and power connections. Also, a separate power adaptor is available for purchase.

Installation

This was a breeze with the software that comes bundled with the portable hard disk. Everything you need is on the drive, so there is no CD with drivers or utilities, to tinker with. Just plug in the device and follow the setup wizard’s instructions.

The main selling point of this product is its two-level security feature. First, there is software encryption to safeguard its contents if the drive is ever lost or stolen.

Then, there is the proprietary DriveLock feature, which is an embedded firmware designed to deny access to the data even if the hard disk is dismantled or connected to another computer.

Maxtor’s device comes with the Maxtor Synch software, a data synchronisation application that allows users to share and update files between their home and office PCs easily.

It also has the System Rollback application which helps revert the computer to the last saved point in the event of a system crash or software error.

Speed test

In our write speed test, this device measured out at three minutes 49 seconds, with an average data transfer speed of 18.2Mbps (megabits per second). In the read test, it scored three minutes 19 seconds, with an average transfer speed of 24.5Mbps.

Other tests – HD Tune and CrystalDiskMark – reinforced the previous findings. We were pleasantly surprised to note that the Maxtor’s performance wasn’t far from that of the two newer portable hard disks.

The verdict

Despite being more than a year old, this portable hard disk does not lose ground to its newer rivals. It is as fast as the rest for daily backup chores, is a sturdy piece of kit, and has two levels of security.

Not bad at all, and we’re betting the improved version is even better. But we’ll have to wait for another time to confirm that.

We love pocket-able gadgets, like our mobile phones, which is why when we laid eyes on the new BenQ Joybee GP1, we know we want it! We wouldn’t call it pico projector but a mini projector. It’s physically smaller than your standard sized projectors but nowhere near the size of a pico projector.

The design is simple – black top with white sides. Instead of the standard VGA and Composite ports, BenQ made a tiny propriety port that resembles Apple’s 30 pin iPod connector. A convertor plus AV cable (VGA + Composite) is bundled together with the projector. You have an option to buy an iPod dock or a component convertor from BenQ as well.

There is also a USB port behind the projector where you can plug in USB drives and play movies, music and even presentation files from Microsoft Powerpoint directly from it. We tried a few movies without reading the manual and none of them worked. We then pop the CD into our optical drive, read the manual and found out that it only supports MPEG files. BenQ bundled ArcSoft’s Media Converter 3.0 with the projector for you to convert the videos yourself.

We tested the projector at distance of about 7 feet away from the wall and we got a nice 60 inch screen. However, the projection was dark. We had to switch off all lights just to get a good picture. The 2W speaker built into the projector was really loud but don’t expect crisp audio quality from a low wattage speaker.

One thing we like about the GP1 is that it is switched off, unlike most projectors, the internal fan switches off. This means that you can pack the projector the moment you switch it off. However, it’s always good to let the lamp cool down before packing it up but sometimes, when you’re in a hurry, that 30 seconds “cooling” period will feel like 3 hours.

We like the BenQ Joybee GP1 for its size and also built in media player. However, supporting only one file format is a little disappointing. The instant off feature is great as well. Lets hope that BenQ will come up with a new model soon to address these problems.
